The javan Rhinoceros is pehaps the most threatenned large mammal in the world. Only two populations are known to exist. In the Ujung Kulon National Park on Java – Indonesia there are about 50 to 60 animals. The second population is in Cat Tien National Park- Viet Nam where only 5 to 7 animals remain.
Appreciative Step of Nepal Government
Recently, Nepal Government announced that it has increased amount of compensation for damage caused by wildlife. This compensation will be provided if case is happened outside the protected areas (Buffer Zone. It is an appreciative step to change poor / people’s attitude towards conservation.
Book Released
The book of Dr Nilesh Heda, Rufford Small Grant Recipient, has been published by the Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India as a part of International Year of Planet Earth. The book has received preface from the notable ichthyologist Dr. Rema Devi.
