Ecological Status of Artisanal Fisheries Resources Along the Coromandel Coast
The aim of this project is to document the current species composition, abundance and ecological status of fish that are the primary catch of artisanal fishing communities of the Coromandel Coast. This baseline will be used to address the paucity of data in this sector which has the potential to reform the way fisheries management is approached in India, specifically along the Coromandel Coast.
Comparison of the Level of Disturbance in Areas Subjected to Trawling Activities with that Occurring in Temporarily Protected Areas and its Relevance to Habitat Conservation.
The main purpose of this work is to analyse the impact of bottom trawling activities on part of the Buenos Aires coastal ecosystem. Then, use the information gathered to support the validity of the regulation that protects the area against trawl fishing.
Dagi River Conservation Action Plan
The two aims of this project are:
-to apply experience of the Conservation Action Plan (CAP) to the Dagi river basin (north-east Sakhalin);
-to carry out a comprehensive environmental survey of the Dagi watershed which will serve as a basis for a conservation plan.
Distribution Patterns of Non-Native Sharptooth Catfish and Threatened Indigenous Fishes – Implications for Species Conservation in the Great Fish and Sundays Rivers
This study aims to assess habitats associated with indigenous fishes and document distribution patterns of invasive sharptooth catfish in the Great Fish and the Sundays River systems.
Developing an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management for Ecological Sustainability and Food Security in Weh Island
Goal of this project is developing ecosystem approach to fisheries management for sustainable fisheries that consists of human well being, ecosystem well being and ability to achieve in Weh Island.
Baselines of Fish Habitat Use, Recruitment and Abundance Across Differentially
Baseline data on fish community structure across the Lakshadweep islands, and information on abundance, distribution and habitat use of fish species, under varying intensities of seagrass grazing by green sea turtles will be obtained. This is being done to study potential impacts of sea turtles on fish availability, which are suspected to have caused negative attitudes towards turtles in recent years.
Enhancing Conservation of the Labeobarbus Species Flock of Lake Tana, Ethiopia, through Better Understanding of their Ecology and Active Participation of the Community
To enhance the conservation of the only remaining cyprinid species flock of Labeobarbus spp. through concerted efforts of ecological studies and active participation of the community.
Fisheries By Catch and its Impact on Marine Biodiversity in the Ecologically Fragile Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve
The project aims at systematic documentation of by catch in Gulf of Mannar, India, the study will also aim to identify fishing gear that are less destructive and provide a set of recommendations that can be incorporated into the management plan of this ecologically sensitive marine protected area.
A Preliminary Investigation into the Size, Sex and Seasonal Ocurrence of White Sharks (Carcharodon Carcharias) within the Bird Island Marine Protected Area
The aim of this project is to collect information on the population dynamics of white sharks within Algoa Bay, specifically within the Bird Island Marine Protected Area.
Population Ecology of Whale Sharks in Mozambique: The Largest Population of the Largest Fish?
Mozambique is an international hotspot for the globally-threatened whale shark (Rhincodon typus). This project emphasises collaborative, community-based population monitoring and management to ensure the continued sustainability of the developing tourism industry in the region, and to provide the data necessary for a broader adaptive management regime.
