Ethnobotany, Trade, Life History, and Population Dynamics of Endemic Cycas Species in the Western Ghats of Southern India
This project aims at getting a worm’s-eye view about the use, status and responses of Cycas species in the Western Ghats. For this I will obtain the necessary data to ensure effective conservation through research on trade, ethnobotany, life history and population dynamics.
Conservation of Threatened and Endangered Species of Gymnosperm in Northwest Vietnam
Northwest of Vietnam is one of the priority regions for conservation, with some of the highest plant diversity, in Vietnam. There are four are listed as globally threatened (IUCN, 2009). Due to over-exploitation, gymnosperm species are rapidly disappearing in many parts of their range. The project’s goal is to build on initial success in Cuc Phuong and to gather further baseline data from across the region that can be used to set a scientifically sound conservation action plan for threatened gymnosperms in Vietnam.
Developing Indigenous Seed Orchards and Local Skills to Restore Mining and Grazing Damage in Arid Karoo Rangeland
To develop a sustainable, ecological restoration business in the economically depressed, but biodiverse, semi-desert Central Karoo region of South Africa.
Conservation and Ethnomycological Studies of Macro-Fungi (Mushrooms) in the Mount Cameroon Region
The aims of this project are:
· To carry out ecological studies of macro-fungi through the use of the national strategy for biodiversity conservation and the International Union for Nature Conservation criteria.
·To document the medicinal and edible mushrooms use by local communities through ethnomycological studies and market surveys.
· To provide mushroom conservation education to the local communities, pupils and students and the general public
Ecological Restoration of Riparian Vegetation in Lacandona Rainforest: Importance of Environmental Filters and Functional Traits in Revegetation Success
This project aim to understand how some abiotic and biotic environmental filters can constraint the recovery of riparian vegetation and the ecosystems services it could provide.
