The overall aims of this project are to assess detailed information on orchid population biology, harvesting, trade, and ecological knowledge in order to provide a series of recommendations for management strategies in order to develop sustainable harvest estimations and in situ and ex situ conservation activities, such as seed and vegetative propagation programs.

Arid Lichens from the Red Data Book of Ukraine – Studying, Conservation and Perspectives

Our aim is to revise all known in literature localities of arid lichens listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine and discovering of new ones. Some vulnerable lichens need special taxonomy revision, because of their areals overlap with those of morphologically similar wide-distributed species. For all lichens evaluation of rarity will be access according with categories of IUCN. Another important part of planned work is distribution of conservation ideas between local populations (posters, lectures). Besides we will provide additional information about arid lichens diversity to the protected areas and prepare objectives for Micro-reserves creations in places, where rare arid lichens occur.

“Renu-Karoo”: Developing Indigenous Seed Orchards and Local Skills to Restore Mining and Grazing Damage in Arid Karoo Rangeland

The project will train and employ local people to collect and grow seeds of indigenous plants for use in ecological restoration in arid Karoo rangeland damaged by over-grazing or mining.

Population Dynamics of Voacanga Africana and Implications for its Conservation in Benin

This project will investigate the extent of harvest of Voacanga africana by local people in Benin and the dynamics of its populations to assess any reduction in population size as a consequence of harvest or other environmental factors, and communicate this and conservation actions needed to local forest authorities and NGOs in Benin.
