The Chungungo (Lontra feline) and Huillìn (Lontra provocax) are Endangered species that live in marine coastal ecosystem in southern Chile. Most important threats of these species are habitat destruction and illegal hunting. Currently the available information about of L. felina has been increasing mainly in southern Chile. However in L. provocax is low yet.

This research, which involves an easy and effective methodical study, will contribute to the knowledge base of otters by means of analysing their population density and distribution in unexplored areas of southern Chile. This information are supporting scientists and government agencies to determine the real status of otter, so relevant conservation areas.
