At the beginning various literatures will be collected to gain information related to Pangolin so that it will be easier to forward the study. Planning will be done as the coverage of the study area is the community forests of Shivapuri National Park, Balthali area, Kavrepalanchok District, Lumbini, and Chitwan National Park of central Nepal. To achieve desired results of the objectives of the proposed project following methods will be adopted. Visits to traditional healer shops in the cities for finding Pangolin trade and status, Questionnaire survey (Purposive Sampling), Interviews with the shop owners, related vendors will be conducted. It will find out the perception of local people towards Pangolin conservation. Species identification will be done by counting the scales round the body and also by consulting recently published field guide on Wild Mammals of Nepal by Baral and Shah. Public awareness will be increased through publication and distribution of brochures, posters in the important study sites.
This research of awaking people about the least studied mammals in major habitats of pangolin will surely contributes in changing local attitudes for conservation. They will be encouraged to stand against habitat management instead of destruction and minimise rampant hunting and killing. This work will advocate for the conservation of the often ignored but nationally threatened and protected mammal of the country along with its habitat and ongoing wildlife trade. Furthermore, as a continuation to the species level study, the present study will focus on public awareness and participation for its utmost conservation. In the future monitoring will be done as far as possible. Finally, report will be prepared at the end of December 2009.
