Conservation of the Natural Resources through Local Environmental Campaign in Cangrejal River Watershed Guaruma inside staff and locals kids.

The project involves more than 110 primary school children and their families in 4 different rural communities (Las Mangas, El Naranjo, Rio Viejo and El Pital) in the Cangrejal River Watershed.
Activities are focused to improve community awareness, establishing sustainability, creative self expression, youth leadership and training in ecotourism they includes activities such as “Cangrejal econews”, “Young photographers of Cangrejal”, “Nature Classrooms” and “Ecotourism adventures rangers” and a power point presentation created by the students using their photographs presented by them in classrooms throughout the region.
Through these workshops and the expansion of an already existed program, environmental local awareness and educational development will be promoted on a variety of levels in the region.

Project Update February 2007 1. GUARUMA staff and locals already start to built infraestructure and display improvements for the nature classroom in Las Mangas community. Cangrejal. Hope in 2 weeks classroom will be ready to start to be used by the locals students in the area as an interactive nature classroom.
2. The Cangrejal environmental editing newspaper staff (local teenagers 15-19 years old) is already formed by 6 members. They start to thinks first ideas about the "Vistazo ambiental" newspaper monthly release in the watershed.
Arrangings for logistic, equipment and office editing is been setting up in Las Mangas community.
3. GUARUMA is already training 7 local teenagers for naturalist tour guide (Adventure rangers).
Project Update April 2007 GUARUMA environmental Nature Classroom in LasMangas community is successfully done. It took some couples of weeks to our staff to plan and work on it, but now the Nature classroom is a reality for the benefit of the environment education of the kids and teenagers of the communities surroundings.
RANGERS: After 3 months, the first 7 local rangers "naturalist tour guides" completed their training and they are applying and working in the communities of El Naranjo and Las Mangas. Thanks so much for your support.
ECOCANGREJAL Bulletin: The third bulletin Ecocangrejal May 2007, has just been released. This main monthly topic : Ranching. (400 issues for local communities distribution).
Soon we will start with the Conservation Campaign.
Project Update June 2007 1. The nature Classroom rehabilitation in Las Mangas is done. Its functioning and managing by GUARUMA locals and providing educational services to the kids, locals and foreigners visiting Cangrejal watershed.
2. The Cangrejal environmental bulletin called “ECOCANGREJAL” is been functioning since February. Six local kids (17-21 years old) from Las Mangas form the editing staff. Five Ecocangrejal newspapers has been release monthly in the communities since then, 500 issues each one (More than 2500 issues total).
3. Seven local teenagers were trained as Naturalist tour guide in their role as Ecotourism adventures rangers. The guides are providing an important ecotourism service in the area.
4. The environmental campaign for natural resources in Cangrejal 2007 and communities lead by GUARUMA / ECOCANGREJAL will be planned for July/ August.
