Project Update: March 2006

The Habituated Bears Study have provided relevant information for the Action Plan and Infromation Campaign. Thus, there were collected information regarding behaviour of bears feeding on garbage bins, number of bears feeding at garbage bins (43 bears including one female with 5 cubs and other females with 4 and 3 cubs), population structure and habitat utilization.

Based on this information was drawn up an Action Plan for Racadau Bears that was discussed with stakeholders during a workshop organized in Brasov. The actions set up and agreed during workshop have started to be implemented with Brasov Town Hall (media campaign), Urban (Waste Management Company), Community Police (patrools with volunteers in the area of Racadau) and AJVPS (bears management and relocation of problem animals).

In the next period, the project team will focus on stakeholders involvement, local volunteers patrools, infomation campaign and continuation of project efforts.
