Establish Centre for Rural Community of Buffer Zone Area: Integrating Conservation and Livelihood around KANHA Tiger Reserve

The project will strengthen local community to take initiatives for collective conservation, we will introduce different techniques for scientific harvesting of Non Timber Forest Produces for sustainable harvesting. Alternates for fuel wood and will be introduce improved CHULAH and use of waste biomass. The project will develop skills of local community on primary processing of NTFP and marketing of products. Promotion of organic farming and vegetable cultivation for their economic empowerment. Integration of livelihood and conservation is required because, without community participation conservation is not possible.

The project will strengthen Village forest committee or Eco Development committee through capacity building, training and possible exposure. To make these committee functional and effective we will do facilitation for coordination among community and forest department. Other project activities are construction of compost pit for demonstration purpose for rural farmers, vegetable seeds, fruit plants, small timber plant etc. A resource centre will be developed for community to learn and adopt. The centre will provide education, skills and linkages to local community for their livelihood and the community will take self initiatives for forest and wildlife conservation.
