Conservation of Microchiropteran Bats and their Habitat through Research and Community Participation

This year long project investigates breeding biology and habitat preferences shown by microchiropteran bats in and around Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat. Capacity building of individuals by providing opportunities to students will be the core focus of this project. Community-based bat conservation programme for local populace and tourists and educational activities are also proposed herein.

The aim of this project is to document the current species composition, abundance and ecological status of fish that are the primary catch of artisanal fishing communities of the Coromandel Coast. This baseline will be used to address the paucity of data in this sector which has the potential to reform the way fisheries management is approached in India, specifically along the Coromandel Coast.

When to Kill Livestock? Foraging Decision Making of Snow Leopard (Uncia Uncia) Along a Gradient of Wild Prey and Livestock Abundance

The aim of the project is to understand the foraging behaviour of snow leopard in relation to availability of wild-prey and livestock. We will correlated snow leopard diet to different ratios of livestock to wild-herbivore abundance to identify factors affecting snow leopards livestock depredation behaviour.

Conservation of Snow Leopard through “Predator - Friendly Wool”

The aim of this project is to develop a local enterprise that will promote traditional woollen handicrafts in Tangyar. The goal is to add value to the livestock that will provide wool to develop these traditional handicraft. By mean of introducing new products with traditional design and by assisting villager to develope high quality finished products and marketing them, this project will ensure conservation of Snow Leopard in high livestock predation areas.
