Empowerment and Capacity Building of Community Fishery Committee in Undertaking Community-Based Aquatic Resources (Wetland) Management and Conservation
The overall aim is to empower the locally elected community fishery management committee to improve wetland conservation by establishing a fish sanctuary where there is no human use to crate a safe ground for economically important wild aquatic living organisms to generate and a habitat for a number of globally threatened waterfowl species.
Assessment of Shellfish Biodiversity in the Mangrove Ecosystem Impacted by Shrimp Intensive Culture in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam
This project aims to investigate the biodiversity of shellfish in the mangrove areas with and without effects of intensive aquaculture activities to produce a baseline for further conservation program of this group in mangrove areas.
By-Catch of Albatrosses and Petrels in Artisan Longline Fisheries in Northern Peru
The study will estimate how many albatrosses and petrels are caught and die in artisanal longline fishing operations in the north of Peru. We will determine an indicator of ‘interaction’ between seabirds and fisheries through on-board observations during normal fishing activities.
Marine Conservation Programme for Central Patagonia, Argentina: Setting Basis for the Creation of Marine Protected Areas
The main goal of this project is to expand and consolidate a long-lasting marine conservation programme for central Patagonia, taking the challenge of changing peoples' perception towards the ocean, and helping to set bases for the future creation of MPAs in this fragile environment.
Identifying Priority Areas for the Conservation of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops Truncatus) Inhabiting the Pato's Lagoon Estuary, Southern Brazil
The aim of this project is to identify the parameters that may influence the preferential areas utilized by the dolphins and to verify the areas and seasons of higher potential for overlap between dolphins and fisheries activities distribution along the year.
Promotion of Wetland Conservation and Sustainable Use through Integrated Management in Southwest Bangladesh
The project will pilot the Integrated Floodplain Management (IFM) approach to sustainable floodplain use and wetland / fishery conservation in a degraded wetland in southwest Bangladesh – Korgar Beel, Narail District. Integrated Floodplain Management aims to minimize conflicts of interest and build on scope for all local people to benefit from maximizing their returns from dry season water, adopting integrated pest management, and limiting fishing to sustainable levels.
Experiment of Coral Transplantation as the Tool for Rehabilitation of Degraded Coral Reefs in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
This project looks at using Utilizing low tech coral transplanting methods to accelerate the recovery of coral reefs and fisheries resources in the degraded coral reef sites.
Predictive Yield Models for Crater Lake Fisheries of Uganda: An Unexpected Marriage of Rural Development and Conservation
Predictive yield models for Crater Lake fisheries of Uganda: An unexpected marriage of rural development and conservation
Incidental Capture of Franciscana Dolphins in Artisanal and Trawling Fisheries in Uruguay
This proposal consists of making a survey of the artisanal fisheries of the Uruguayan coast with the aim of determining those with greater interaction and direct the efforts of systematic monitoring to them.
Evaluating the Survivorship of Elasmobranchs Captured by Bottom Trawlers: A Pilot Plan for Conservation of Sharks, Skates and Rays
Sharks, skates and rays populations around the world are being affected both directly and indirectly by a wide array of human activities. As a result, many populations are depleted, and some species are considered to be threatened with extinction as a result of several factors (life history strategies, rapid growth of fisheries, very high levels of mortality as bycatch, and degradation of important nursery grounds).
