Black Vultures, Armenia

Town/RegionCountryCategoriesDate
Khosrov PreserveArmeniaAsia, Birds16 May 2004

Black vultures are globally threatened and endangered in Armenia and are only found in the Khosrov preserve. Declines are due to reductions in food availability, persecution and poisoning. We believe that as elsewhere (eg Spain) the black vulture could be a flagship species for conservation in Armenia.

We propose a programme of public education focused on the black vulture that provides direct conservation support to the black vulture through nest monitoring and supplemental feeding. We will collect data that will enable us to preserve, better manage and hopefully increase the black vulture population in Armenia.
