The El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve (Southern Mexico) contains the largest remaining cloud forest in southern Mexico as well as oak forest, pine forest, montane rainforest and tropical rainforests. El Triunfo is considered a transition area between Neotropical and Neartic Regions and as a result its biodiversity is very particular with many endemic plants and animals.

However, this area is poorly known and is seriously threatened by human activities such as agriculture, cattle ranching and deforestation so it is important to get as much information as possible so that we can design appropriate conservation plans. The group will study small mammals in three types of forests: Cloud Forest, montane rainforest and tropical forest. Information about habitat will be measured in each trap line station. The team will provide information about the current conservation status of mammal species. This information will be used by the authorities of the El Triunfo Reserve management.
