This project aims to empower the local community to participate in biodiversity conservation and improvement of livelihoods in one of the Kenyan closed canopy forests, the Kereita.
The project hopes to achieve this by providing necessary information to the forest-adjacent community, whilst encouraging and supporting environmentally friendly initiatives that are geared towards conservation and protection of this important and unique ecosystem. The envisaged activities include an enhanced eco-tourism scheme, sericulture, bee keeping and a special environmental programme. The project will adopt an integrated approach that emphasises the use of traditional and local knowledge in conservation and management of the forest biodiversity.
