Characterization of quantitative habitat preferences is necessary to assess the possible impacts of the developing activities on the temperate forest of Chile. Christine proposes to study bird habitat relationships in this region. Point count surveys of diurnal non-raptor bird species will be carried out in some national parks between latitudes 35°S and 40°S. Vegetation structure variables will be measured and compared to the information available through the national inventory of vegetation. This will allow for the integration of landscape variables to the modelling of habitat preferences. Different models will be tested against each other, and accuracy will be estimated.
Christine is developing a website where she will describe her research and results: you can visit this link at http://cain.nbii.gov/chile_birds and email her to find out more at cnmeynard@ucdavis.edu
