The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) in Uganda has experienced a long history of intensive logging, encroachment for agriculture, mining, poaching, fishing and wild fires. Although fishing was banned in Bwindi rivers, illegal fishing still takes place and the fish fauna of BINP  remains relatively unknown to-date. This study will shed some light on the fish structure and the potential effects of human disturbance on the stream fishes of Bwindi.

The project aims to generate information on the use of fish in Bwindi streams and determine their conservation status in the face of disturbance within the catchment area. The information will go a long way towards assessing the feasibility of sustainable use of the river fishery. The research will also assess and gather information on the environmental, biological and social structure of fish in the area.
