Adriana Rodriguez-Ferraro

Community Ecology and Conservation of Bird Assemblages in Arid Zones of Northern Venezuela

This project will be the first to provide a clear understanding of the patterns of avian species diversity, as well as information on habitat use by habitat-specialist birds in Venezuelan arid zones.

Ariany Minerva Garcia Rawlins

Dynamics of Cave Use by Cave-Dwelling Bats in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones in Northern Venezuela

This project aims to determine the dynamic of use that have the cave-dwelling bats in the shelters (caves) located in arid and semiarid zones in northern Venezuela.

Daniel Marcelo Larrea Alcázar

Positive Interactions between Columnar Cacti and Thorny Legume Species in a Semiarid Enclave of the Venezuelan Andes

In this work, we are evaluating the spatial association among long-lived columnar cacti and mimosoid shrubs in two contrasting semiarid landscapes (mesic and xeric sites), as well as the ecological process that could explain these plant-plant interactions.

Galo Buitron

Magnet Trees for Birds in Venezuelan Cloud-Forests

The main aim of this project is to assess the effect of tree and bird abundance on fruit removal in cloud forest areas of different size. We focus in documenting the foraging behavior of many species of birds and the role of widely distributed tree species as important feeding sources in Venezuelan cloudforests.

Investing in the Future: Training and Awareness About Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation

All six species of Caribbean sea turtles are endangered. This project seeks to increase knowledge about the turtles through workshops for international scientists and awareness raising sessions for local participants.

Research and Conservation of Endangered Sea Turtles on the Paria Peninsula, Sucre State, Venezuela

All six species of Caribbean sea turtles are endangered. This project seeks to increase knowledge about the turtles through workshops for international scientists and awareness raising sessions for local participants.

Jaime Bolaños-Jiménez

Empowering Local Communities for Responsible Development of Whalewatching in the Central Coast of Venezuela

This project aims to empower local communities and stakeholders to responsibly offer high quality whalewatching tours.

Jaime Bolaños-Jiménez

Educating Educators on the Knowledge and Conservation of the Marine Habitat and Species in Ocumare de la Costa de Oro

To provide educators with knowledge on the importance of local marine ecosystems and emblematic species for the welfare of the local communities and for the life in general.

José Antonio González Carcacía

Importance of Cacti and Agaves in the Diet of Different Feeding Guilds of Birds in Neortropical Arid Zones: Contrasting Agricultural Vs. Wild Areas, Venezuela

This project  will evaluate the relative importance of these plants in the diet of a bird community associated with arid zones, contrasting agricultural versus wild areas. Showing that cacti and agaves can be important for the bird assemblage can be used as a strong argument in favor of the conservation of these neglected plants and their habitats.

Lenin Oviedo

Ecology of Neritic Odontocete Cetaceans in an Upwelling Ecosystem in the Northeast Coast of Venezuela: Delphinus Spp, Sotalia Guianensis

The project aims to produce biological information on critical habitat, behaviour, acoustic and feeding habits of common and tucuxi dolphins in the northeast coast of Venezuela.

Natalia Ceballos-Mago

The Margarita Monkey, an Endangered Capuchin Inhabiting a Fragmented Habitat on Margarita Island, Venezuela

The main goal in this study is to evaluate the use of habitat by the Margarita capuchin monkey over its fragmented range of distribution and generate recommendation for its conservation.

Shaenandhoa Garcia-Rangel

Evaluating the Conservation Status of the Threatened Andean Bear (Tremarctos Ornatus) in La Sierra de Portuguesa, Venezuelan Andes

Deep knowledge on the species habitat and landscape-use patterns is urgently needed to reduce the effects of fragmentation, and ensure its long-term conservation.
