Island Coastal Academy Network (I-CAN), Western Indian Ocean- Internationally-Accredited Capacity-Building for Sustainable Coastal Biodiversity Conservation

This project aims to build local capacity in the western Indian Ocean islands for coastal biodiversity management, sustainable tourism and community-based organization management through a network of training academies offering internationally-accredited BTEC courses in collaboration with host-country institutions.

By using assays of immune function this project aims to select individuals from a small, historically bottlenecked population of endangered parakeets with which to create new viable populations.

This project aims to identify the optimum level of supplemental food required in order to maintain a sustainable population of endangered parakeets whilst minimising cost and human intervention.

Ecology, Conservation Genetics and Translocation of the Mauritius Lowland Day Gecko (Phelsuma Guimbeaui)

The aim of this project is to identify the status and critical needs (food and habitat requirements) and population genetics of P. guimbeaui species. The findings of this research will be utilised to extend their range, and most importantly, any small threatened sub-populations will be rescued and translocated onto a predator free island or nature reserve.
