In 2008 we start new conservation oriented-research related with inter-specific relationships between jaguars and pumas, and population dynamics, habitat requirements and health population of jaguars to improve a Conservation Plan for the jaguars in the region.Alejandro TravainiPatagonian Wild Foxes Warning against Poisoning by Conditioned Taste AversionProtecting predators from poisoning, inside and outside protected areas in Patagonia by generating taste aversion.Alejandro VilaHuemel Deer, ArgentinaEcology and conservation of the huemel deer in Patagonia, ArgentinaAlexis CerezoAvian Communities as Affected by the Heterogeneity of the Agricultural Landscape of the Rolling Pampa, Argentina: Dynamics Between Cultivated and Non-Cultivated EnvironmentsThe avian community of the Rolling Pampas is one of the most threatened grassland bird communities in the world.Andrea Elisa IzquierdoImplications of Changes in Demographic and Land-Use Patterns on the Biodiversity of Atlantic Forest in Misiones, ArgentinaThe major goal of this study is to understand how demographic and land use dynamics affect the biodiversity in the province of Misiones.Andrea Elisa IzquierdoImplications of Changes in Demographic and Land-Use Patterns on the Biodiversity of Atlantic Forest in MisionesThe overall aim of this project is to understand the relationships between human demography and land-use patterns and its implications for the biodiversity.Andrea I. MarinoGuanaco Vulnerability to Puma Predation: Ecological Factors Affecting Anti-Predatory ResponsesThe aim of this project is to address guanaco behavioural plasticity and the ecological factors that could limit anti-predatory responses, in order to manage guanaco populations threatened by high puma predation rates.Andrés TálamoThe Impact of Logging on Regeneration and Diversity of the Semi-Arid Chaco Forest of ArgentinaA project to assess the impact on the Argentinean Chaco Forest of two different methods of logging.Andrés TálamoRegeneration Mechanisms of the Two Most Important Arboreal Species in Semi-Arid Chaco Forest in ArgentinaOur objective is to investigate whether shrubs facilitate the establishment and survival of seedlings of both quebracho species, and how one of the most common land uses (cattle grazing) affect the process.Carlos Eduardo Trucco AlemánLivestock and Native Fauna: Changes Affecting Predation and Secondary Dispersal of Seeds of Woody Plant in the Semi-Arid Chaco Woodland, Copo National Park and Surroundings, ArgentinaThe key objective of this study is to assess the changes in the post-dispersal seed removal of native woody plants and in the removal agents themselves (insects, small and large vertebrates) in eight woodlands with different intensities of cattle grazing in the Copo National Park and surroundings.Carolina Laura MoralesInterspecific Pathogen Transmission as Potential Cause of Ecological Replacement of Native Bombus Dahlbomii by Introduced Invasive Bumblebee Species, ArgentinaThe aim of the project is to explore whether the transmission of pathogens from introduced invasive bumblebees to the native bumblebee Bombus dahlbomii might explain the long term decline of this native species.Carolina Natalia GargiuloConservation Status of the Andean Condor (Vultur Gryphus) in Three National Parks of Central ArgentinaDetermine the abundance of the Andean Condor population in three National Parks of Central Argentina to contribute to knowledge of the species’ global conservation status.Carolina RamírezFeeding Ecology of Black and Gold Howler, Alouatta Caraya in Fragmented Forests of Northeast ArgentinaAnalyze variations in the feeding behavior, home range and group cohesion of three groups of Alouatta caraya with respect to the spatial distribution and the size of the fragments that the groups occupy.Cintia CelsiPromoting the Conservation of Pampean Coastal Ecosystems through the Creation of a Marine-Coastal Nature Reserve (Buenos Aires, Argentina)This project aims to promote the creation of a marine-coastal nature reserve to contribute to the conservation of the Pampean coastal ecosystems, focusing on the development of ecological research and interaction with local communities.Daniel RenisonRestoration of Polylepis Mountain Woodlands in the Sierras Grandes of Cordoba, ArgentinaWork to restore degraded woodland in the highest and most inaccessible range of mountains in Cordoba, Argentina, protecting valuable watersheds and important biodiversity.Daniel RenisonRestoration of Polylepis Mountain Woodlands in the High Córdoba Mountains, ArgentinaThis project examines ways of making a substantial and long-lasting contribution to the restoration of these mountains.Daniel RenisonNative Forests, Wildlife and Water in Central Argentina: Fostering Public Ecological Understanding and Forest RestorationWe aim to contribute to the restoration of the native mountain forests of Central Argentina, and hence of wildlife, water resources and other valuable ecosystem services.Edgardo Ernesto Di GiacomoIdentification of Egg Laying Areas for Chondrichthyan Fishes in a Coastal Zone of San Matías Gulf, Northern Patagonia, ArgentinaThe aim of this project is to locate the egg-laying areas for several species of skates and one holocephalan, and quantify the amount of egg cases laid per reproductive season for identify sensitive areas for their protection and estimate fundamental life history parameters needed for the design of conservation and fishery management measure.Elizabeth Chang ReissigDisease Risks for Native Deer Species, Associated to Exotic Ungulates Red Deer (Cervus Elaphus) and Wild Boar (Sus Scrofa) in Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia, ArgentinaAssess the risk of diseases transmission from exotic to native species and generate basic information for an efficient management of red deer and wild boar Patagonian populations.Elizabeth Chang ReissigDisease Risks for Native Deer Species, Associated to Exotic Ungulates Cervus Elaphus and Sus Scrofa in National Parks of Northern Patagonia, ArgentinaThe aim of the project is to identify diseases of exotic mammals in Patagonia, evaluate the risk of disease transmission from introduced species to native fauna, and generate basic information to prevent zoonosis.Els VermeulenProject Right Whale – Evaluating the Impact of Tourism Activities on Southern Right Whales in North PatagoniaThis project aims to obtain information on the southern right whales in the Natural Protected Area Bahía de San Antonio, Northeast Patagonia, allowing us to understand the impact of “swim-with-whales” and “whale-watching” activities conducted in this area. The results of this project will be an indispensable tool for the implementation of accurate regulations and conservation measurements towards these vulnerable animals in the region.Els VermeulenProject Right Whale – Evaluating the Impact of Touristic Activities on Southern Right Whales in North Patagonia, ArgentinaThe only location in Argentina, and one of the only places in the world, where it is legal to swim with southern right whales (SRWs) under specific restrictions, is inside the Gulf of San Matías, Province of Río Negro. Due to this legalization and the consequential important role of SRWs in the development of this coastal area, especially in the region of San Antonio, this study aims to obtain information on their behavioural reaction to these human approaches. The results of this study will be an indispensable tool for the implementation of regulations and conservation measurements towards these vulnerable animals in the region. |
