Project Update:October 2010

An area of about 4 acres has been chosen for the establishment of the herb garden. The site was carefully selected in consultation with the community leaders taking into consideration the richness of the soil, nearness to water source, proximity and access to local inhabitants and lastly safeguard from livestock. The plot has been prepared and planting has been carried out with a planting distance of 2m x 2m in a roll. Initial planting failed due to excessive shade and erratic rainfall. Therefore, beating up was undertaken.

About 50% of seedlings have been planted on site whilst 30% of seedlings, which are tree in character like Tetrapleura tetraptera, have been used as shore planting along the banks of the Lake. Some have been planted in the backyards of some households and other open spaces.
A set of school jerseys has been presented to the school authorities in fulfilment of an initial request made.
