Project Update: July 2010

As part of the project activities, a quiz competition was organised for the pupils of Abono Junior High School. The aim was to ascertain the schoolchildrens’ knowledge base on environmental issues and also deepen their understanding on the relevance of biodiversity conservation through participatory learning. The quiz covered a broad spectrum of environmental issues at the basic level including their roles and responsibilities in plant conservation, forest and habitat protection activities (reforestation and a forestation, wildfire prevention, sustainable farming, upholding customary and environmental laws) and climate change issues.

Three pupils took part in the competition. Present were teachers and their students, some community members and parents and other tourists. Contestants were presented with text, reading and exercise books accordingly.

Leaflets outlining why we must protect our forest resources and work together to conserve medicinal plants were distributed to the community.
