Project Update: July 2010

Sensitisation meetings continued, extending to the middle segment of Wambabya wetlands. The aim of the exercise was to create awareness amongst the stakeholders and the district leadership.

All the three sensitisation meetings adopted an instructive and participatory methodology. Community and district level sensitisation meetings were carried out. The meetings were facilitated by Natural Resources Management Initiative and Navigators of Development Association (NAVODA) which advocates for alternative sources of income.

Although a total of 57 participants attended, some sensitisations registered poor attendance. The meetings briefed the participants on the activities that will be implemented by the project and the benefits of protecting the wetlands. People’s expectations were captured and they promised to participate and give support whenever necessary as the project gets under way.
